Monarch News, BLAST Lab, Horticulture and Visual BASIC ...

In Selected Topics in Science, we started our Plant and Animal Unit with a gardening planning project using a seed catalog donated by Johnny's Seeds.  Students selected seeds for their order and will design their garden tomorrow.  We will be starting tomato, pepper and sunflower plants later in the spring to take home and transplant.

In Computer Science I, students have started Microsoft Visual BASIC which features a Graphical User Interface (GUI).  Their first program is a biographical program with command buttons, textboxes and picture boxes.

Computer Science II will be working on their projects (raspberry pi, arduinos, finch robots and appinventor).  At the same time we will be working on our third set of python programs.

AP Biology today finished their BLAST lab by reserching a protein of their choice ... rubisco, phosphofructokinase, DNA polymerase and more ...  On Wednesday we will wrap up the discussion on this lab which is due next Monday.  Our study of evolution and population genetics continues on Wednesday.

Tomorrow starts our ACT prep for juniors during of Pride Time ... their state-wide test is in March.

Journey North reported the Monarch count in Mexico's wintering area.  It was slightly higher but dangerously low ...  continuing to plant milkweed and give away plants in our Patriot Pollinator Project!
