Back to school after a BIG snow!

After the 11" snow, below 0 degree F temperatures and six missed days of school, we returned to school for two days with students and two teacher work days.  It was good to see students after almost a half of a month.

Next week, we have the ACT for juniors for Tuesday.

AP Biology has their second test on Monday.  We have few tests and mostly labs in this class.  This test is cumulative through population genetics and evolution.  Good luck to all!

Yesterday, I met with our computer programming II class.  We finished up a project rotation.  We have added some equipment for the raspberry pi computers and the arduino station.  Below is our new Zumo robot that works with an arduino uno as a shield.  Both are shown below ...

AP Biology review, Visual BASIC and ACT Prep ...

Today in AP Biology, students handed in their BLAST labs.  We spent most of the block reviewing material be covered in August and September.  We will continue our review on Wednesday and start our Ecology unit.  We have a test scheduled on February 18.

In Computer Programming I, we worked on our Guessing Game program today.  This is the fourth problem in the Visual BASIC unit.  In this problem, we returned to more programming to go along with the building of a Graphical User Interface.  Our next problem is progamming a Math Tutor program for an elementary student.

Tomorrow is Club Schedule and our ACT Prep for Junior continues ...

In Computer Programming II, we will working on our project rotation and programming in python (our third set of problems using list and classes).

The Selected Topics in Science class will be starting our animal science unit ... Porifera and Cnidarians.

This weekend, I was in Holland KY most of the weekend.  It was warm and I had time to check our bees.  There were good numbers in our hives.  While I was checking hives, our deer (having forgotten hunting season) checked out what I was doing.  Pictures below ...

Monarch News, BLAST Lab, Horticulture and Visual BASIC ...

In Selected Topics in Science, we started our Plant and Animal Unit with a gardening planning project using a seed catalog donated by Johnny's Seeds.  Students selected seeds for their order and will design their garden tomorrow.  We will be starting tomato, pepper and sunflower plants later in the spring to take home and transplant.

In Computer Science I, students have started Microsoft Visual BASIC which features a Graphical User Interface (GUI).  Their first program is a biographical program with command buttons, textboxes and picture boxes.

Computer Science II will be working on their projects (raspberry pi, arduinos, finch robots and appinventor).  At the same time we will be working on our third set of python programs.

AP Biology today finished their BLAST lab by reserching a protein of their choice ... rubisco, phosphofructokinase, DNA polymerase and more ...  On Wednesday we will wrap up the discussion on this lab which is due next Monday.  Our study of evolution and population genetics continues on Wednesday.

Tomorrow starts our ACT prep for juniors during of Pride Time ... their state-wide test is in March.

Journey North reported the Monarch count in Mexico's wintering area.  It was slightly higher but dangerously low ...  continuing to plant milkweed and give away plants in our Patriot Pollinator Project!
