Busy week ... faculty meeting / PD after school today so late getting to this blog update.
In Genetics, we finished our Chapter 15 discussion questions today and started our chapter on Human Ancestry and Evolution, Chapter 16. Tomorrow however, we will be doing our second Restriction Enzyme / Electrophoresis Lab. This lab is a step up from our first lab and is also an AP Biology lab. Students will cutting a viral DNA (Lambda) with three restriction enzymes (enzyme found in bacteria that cut through specific DNA sequence) ... BamHI, EcoRI and HindIII. We will the load these samples into an agarose gel and to separate the DNA fragments. We will analyze our gels on Friday after we stain them with Methylene Blue and destain overnight.
In Computer Science, we continued work on our tutorial programs for 5th graders. Most students are generating programs using World War II as their subject area. We should finish be Friday.
We continued our study of human body organ systems ... today the immune system, types of antibodies and the importance of breast feeding from an immunity standpoint. Toward the end of class we worked on our identification of bones and muscles of the body.
Tomorrow there will be a change in softball conditioning because of predicted rainfall ... check my room for the update tomorrow.
Also have updated our Genetics page with the data from our Drosophila Lab.
Be careful driving to school in the morning ... appears it will be raining with fog.
