Our schools let out 2 hours early to beat the snow ... as of 7:00 CT ... we have about 2" or so ... doubt if we have school tomorrow. Since my classes all meet early, we got all three in before leaving school!
In AP Biology ... we did the major portion of Lab#2, Enzyme Catalysis Lab ... students worked through parts 2B, 2C, and 2D ... establishing a baseline for our 1.5% hydrogen peroxide. Then students ran the reaction hydrogen peroxide / catalase for different lengths of time ... 10 seconds to 360 seconds. Most groups saw a decrease in the amount of hydrogen peroxide over time in the presence of the enzyme - catalase.
We will finish this lab on return ... remember we have a snow day assignment ... discussion questions on Chapter 3-4 ... do it!
In Selected Topics in Science, we continued our regeneration lab using planaria ... changing water and logging an observation. We finished our study of biochemistry and organic molecules of our life with a spirited game of biochem poker. In this activity, you take small molecule and try to make larger molecules by combining them together correctly ... two rounds were won by the top hand, ATP!
