Weekend ... Rain, Softball, Rain, Bees and Redbuds

We got up early and left at 6:30 AM CT to Nicholasville to play in the West Jessamine Tournament.  It was raining when we took out.  We got a call on the way that the tournament had been backed up so, we stopped in Russell Springs for breakfast.  Played our first game against Danville at 2:30, West Jessamine at 5:30 and the championship game at 7:00 against a good Woodford County team.  We played well on defense but our offense needs work.  We won all three games.  Rained and stormed on the way home.

I got home after 1:00 from the tournament but got up to go to Sunday school.  In the afternoon worked through about half our hives ... rotated supers, added supers and queen excluders ... checked for brood and reset some hives on four blocks instead of two ... finished about 7:00.  Going to get some things ready for school and to bed early.

The Redbuds are in full bloom and this farm have several ... pict is from the one in Granny's yard.  Also. Shepard's purse is blooming ... pict below but not a good one!  It is everywhere and blooming ... a herbal remedy for bleeding ...

Capsella bursa-pastoris, known by its common name shepherd's-purse because of its triangular, purse-like pods, is a small (up to 0.5m) annual and ruderal species, and a member of the Brassicaceae or mustard family.

Capsella bursa-pastoris is closely related to the model organism Arabidopsis thaliana and is also used as a model organism due to the variety of genes expressed throughout its life cycle that can be compared to genes that are well studied in A. thaliana.   Wikipedia ...
